I know there are some courses which can be found on t'internet but I wondered if anyone had any paticular recomendations? Esp good to hear if you have been on a good course.
Thanks!

Hi Ian
I am Essex based, so will have to travel to attend, we are also looking at mixing some training/races with a few long weekends next year and a navigation course would be part of that planning.
be good to hear any details - where is your course exactly?

Based in Northern Peak, We should have the campsite and/or bunk house sorted by then so I could do an all in one price.
Depends on how many of you there are and if I need to get extra instructors in.
If you can get on the FRA course though this is excellent(and I should be there too with Big Compass and The Navigator) The price is fantastic for what you get, It's heavily subsidised.

Hi Egglet
No substitute for getting out and practising but i found this book v useful http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mountain-Nav...3817374&sr=8-1
Also available as an E-book http://www.lakesrunner.com/welcome-t...ok-p-8421.html
After recent results, I think its time for me to re-read it:o
Re: Recommended navigation cou
Definitely recommend the FRA courses, but if you can't get a place then look for a course from a fell runner such as IDP
Re: Recommended navigation cou
Ian, Your experience is vast but i didn't know you were offering courses for navigation as i can't think of anyone more qualified from having been there and doing it. If you are Nav course operating i would certainly be interested.
Matt.
Re: Recommended navigation cou
On a slightly different tack, there are a few of us who go up fairly regularly for day trips to the nearer fell areas from the Chelmsford area. The next few months are fairly typical, with plans afoot to go to Shropshire for Stretton Skyline(11/09), Breiddon Hills(9/10), Wrekin Wrecker(Nov), Cardington Cracker(4/12), and Derbyshire for Lantern Pike(17/09) and, possibly, The Roaches. You would be welcome if you wanted to join us. There are more details on the chatboard at www.springfieldstriders.org.uk
We do not talk about our carbon tyreprint.
Re: Recommended navigation cou
If you are prepared to travel a bit further Scottish Hillrunner's have also started doing navigation courses geared towards hill/fellrunning:

Re: Recommended navigation cou
Perhaps, look locally to learn the basics of navigation and then get some fell navigation under your belt:
