Pins and needles in foot!
Hello all
I was hoping for advice on what could be causing this annoying prblem in my foot.
I hurt my back 5 days ago bending down to go through a garden gate with a shooting pain across the lower back which spread to me arse. I also found it difficult to raise my left leg very high but the right was OK. This has cleared up and the back just feels a bit stiff now. I now have however a pain travelling down my left leg and have had pins and needles in my left foot for couple of days. The pain isn't too bad, just a bit stiff, but the P&N are weird!
If anyone has any idea what could be causing this - and how to fix it - I'd be very happy.
Thanks!

SEE A DOCTOR
It could just be a trapped nerve but it could be something else so best to get it check out I would say. It may need a scan.
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
Almost definitely a trapped sciatic nerve, but as IDP says - get yourself to a doctor for your own peace of mind...
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
Thanks Stumpy and Ian. Think I will get it checked out just in case.
Hopefully won't be too long until back running, down to do Carnethy 5 but not sure if will be up to the job now!
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
sounds to me like you slipped a disc there I'm afraid - might not give you much bother though in the long run though so don't worry
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
Suspect you might struggle with the Carnethy 5. I suffered with sciatic pain for months and months. In my case, I'm sure the mistake I made was stopping running and trying to "rest" my injury.
It was only when I gritted my teeth and forced myself out (with my wife heartlessly skipping off into the distance) that my pain began to diminish and my back improved.
This might not apply to you of course but I think for most back problems it's important to keep exercising.
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
You have gor away lightly.
I suffered a prolapsed disc a few years ago and had pins and needles in my foot.
Mind you the P&Ns were the last thing I was bothered about ,the pain was something else !!.
Search Amazon and buy the Macenzie "Treat your own back " book.
The advise I have just given you is priceless act on it.

I bought the book but to be honest, I think it was the running that cured me.
Re: Pins and needles in foot!
Thanks for all for the advice.
Went to the physio today and her view is that one of the discs has split a bit. The gunk which has leaked out is affecting the sciatic nerve hence the pain and p&n. The recommended stretch is lying on my front then pushing up with my arms and holding that position.
Reckon I'll rest it for a couple of weeks but do some light walking on the fells. Not sure if swimmig might help. Also need to stop seeing it as an excuse to drink wine as not running.
Worse thing was walking to the shop tonight and bumping in to the club off to do hill reps!
