OS mapping software

Can anyone recommend to me which is the best mapping software for plotting routes, particularly for using 1:25k OS maps the base map.

My club is looking to build a club database of all our runs, so that we have a library available online and people can choose which routes they want to run. Obviously for road runs, this is easy - can just use mapmyrun or gmaps pedometer or any other free mapping software, however for our offroad runs and our "away" runs on Round Hill and Ilkley moor and for our race maps, it would be nice to use the OS maps.

I use OS Getamap http://www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/ £20 per year subscription, covers the whole UK up to 1:25000
But I've only used it for personal use and I notice there's no option so save maps as an image which is what the example you gave is; however you can print maps and I suspect with a pdf print driver you may be able save the resulting pdf for download from the web by your users...don't know if that could be an option for you

I use memory map. It is great but you have to buy each map which can add up.

You can plot the routes on the map and get an accurate mileage and ascent figure and also produce a route card showing waypoints. If you really want to you can do a 3D flythrough and put yourself off the run altogether.

You have the option to download the map portion to a mobile device so you can follow the route on there.

Gets my vote too. I have used MMs for seven years now. You can get older ones half price. You can also buy the 10 National Parks in 1:50000 for less than 30 quid. Bargain.

I use Tracklogs, www.tracklogs.co.uk I have a bunch of stuff at 1:25,000 and a couple of years ago they had an offer on for 1:50,000 for the whole country for not much at all so for me I have the perfect mix of maps. I've used Memory Map, but I much prefer Tracklogs.

At a guess the CVFR map is generated from Tracklogs.

Does the OS get a map thing actually allow you to plot a route overlay? (cf the CVFR example posted) - I thought it just allowed you access to all OS maps and for you to print off the particular section which you were interested in?

I want something that does the same thing as the CVFR example I posted really. I'll take a look at Tracklogs and Memory Map, although I'd quite like to keep cost to a minimum, as it'll be a club purchase...

Yes, I've seen that before - it looks good value at £2/month, if it allows unlimited use and doesn't require you to buy each OS map individually (as you do for memory map). Has anyone used it?

yes, thats what I use it for, to plot a route and then upload the route to a handheld device, but you can also print the map including the route. What you can't do as far as I can tell is export as an image, but with pdf printer drivers you can produce a pdf of your map and route.
