Why did someone bark the order "Hands up!" from time to time? I still don't get it.

I completed my first Fellsman this weekend after months of mental anguish and apprehension, almost paralleled by the brutal physical conditions encountered during the event. Like many I've been inspired to put my experience into words: http://speedybrown.blogspot.co.uk/
I've followed this thread with interest and wholeheartedly agree that the organisers had an impossibly tough decision but made the right call. I would like to think that if I had been withdrawn I'd have understood and accepted it. Thankfully our group managed to maintain a reasonably decent pace over Buckden Pike and Great Whernside, especially on the descents, but the wind and associated chill factor were pretty severe even before midnight.
I would just like to say that from my point of view the event was impeccably organised and all of the checkpoint marshals, mess tent staff and many other volunteers were all amazing and friendly which really helped get everyone around. Big thanks to one and all!
I know, it's already crossed my mind =) My wife *will* kill me if I do it again though...
My never again started when we finished, over brekie it was probably not and over the 2hr ride home we'd already made up our minds to do it again next year :-)
I was trying to be Annie Oakley, not sure it worked tho  It looks like the fancy dress may re-appear next year then. Only 360 days to get organised.......
Full report of the Fellsman, including interview with event organiser Sue Carter, now on grough http://bit.ly/KqqVdd
Just read Sue Carters report on the Fellsman website - looks like there are 2 serious breaches of the rules they are investigating before any results will be published. I may have read it wrong, but I feel so sorry for the gentleman who got wind blindness off Great Whernside - hope he is recovered now, I don't however feel sorry for the 3 others that left him - he got so confused he ended up retracing his steps to the summit. Someone correct me if this is wrong.
Just read it too dont know the details but that sounds bad.
Putting 2&2 together it's the guy in DogBreaths group that they are talking about. I may be wrong but DBs case was identical at Capplestone Gate. Yes, poor chap. Very lucky though he's ok.
