John Hewitt
Dear fell runners
Our dear friend (and Chair of Glossopdale Harriers until the end of 2017) John H died peacefully during the night of 14/15 March 2018. As you may know, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour last May. Although this could not be treated, John was able to enjoy a wonderful summer with friends and family, and visiting some favourite places. He leaves his father, Desmond and many, many close friends for whom John H was nothing less than a star.
Rest in peace John.
Ali Holt, on behalf of Glossopdale Harriers

Sad news. Thanks for sharing.
John was a great guy - I used to enjoy chatting to him at local races. A few random memories spring to mind:
John leading the field at Lantern Pike fell race for the first 20 yards
John telling Mrs noel that a cake she made was good because it lasted a long time due to it being so dense. Then realising what he had said and hastily back-tracking - all with great humour
A lasting sense of his friendly style and sense of camaraderie. It's hard to picture him without thinking of him laughing.

Please pass on my condolences to his family and to all at Glossopdale.
John was a great guy. I had a long chat with him last year at Shelf moor and it was good to see him get out to see his fell running friends at various races over the last year.
He will be missed greatly...Rip John

John was a truly lovely guy and will be sadly missed. He showed tremendous determination last year - getting to the first check-point at Jura, making it to the overnight camp at the LAMM, hosting a wonderful birthday party at Ben's farm.

That's very sad news. Thanks for letting us know, Ali.
Rest In Peace, John.
