Colne Valley folks and clubs
Just a bit of idle musing. Considering joining a club, but not sure which. Live in t'Colne Valley so sort of in between clubs, Meltham, Calder valley, etc. Are there many runners roundabouts and do you go unattached like me or are you in a club? Sort of thinking that I like to run alone but would also be nice to be part of a not too serious gang for a bit of mutual support and an excuse for a social life. Even wondered if there was a niche for another club around these parts.
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
Far too many clubs in the area already, I'm sure you can find one that suits
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
Hey up Phil. I live in the valley and run out every sat morn.vif you fancy meeting up pm me.
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
Not quite in Colne Valley - near Ainley Top - but run with Calder Valley who are a great bunch of people.
I know a few from Meltham as well and they are a nice friendly club and there's also Holmfirth Harriers in the mix! Best bet is to turn up for a training session or have a chat with a few members at your next race and go from there - that's how I decided on Calder.
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
We are in Marsden, we nip over the hill to Saddleworth, a very friendly mainly fell club.
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
There are a lot of clubs admittedly, hence my post in some ways. Lifestyle/work dictates that I cant travel far on a regular basis for training etc. Saddleworth do seem a friendly lot, they were ok about me finishing last in Ravenstones race by a country mile (a very long one at that), prob too far tho. Holmfirth seem good but big. Calder valley are a way off. Meltham seems ok, I did their 10k this year and probably the closest. I may just opt for unattached. I was interested in people's alliances and why. Thanks for replies

Super run out of the valley, up Wessenden and to Black Hill top and back. Phil, this a great run to tackle and you can headtorch the first 3.5 miles and back easily. Park at Binn road and run up Wessenden road(Track). Attachment 5366Attachment 5367
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
I went up Black hill and down to Crowden this morning. Quality run. Wessenden in the snow was one of my running highlights last winter
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
Was it you I saw by the first stream crossing. We exchanged words about the greasy stones?
Re: Colne Valley folks and clu
It was indeed. I kept slipping on those bloody slabs. I know they're good for erosion and all, but they are a menace.
