Steel Fell: It is not a completely direct ascent. You go up the usual way for a while and then cross the stream and go diagonally below the first lot of crags. There are lots of boulders about and the saving is marginal. I have done it and don't think much of it. I believe Joss Naylor used to go that way. In the dark, straight up is best.

I am planning a go at the BG either late May mid June and would appreciate any help and or advice you can throw my way, im obviously intrested in cutting time, but also any information you think relevant will be gratefully recieved. have you any recce plans over the next month/six weeks ? would welcome a hook up if you dont mind ?

From the way you describe it , I think My traverse took me further left...it was more than justone crag away... I hit the top at least 500 M west of the usual place.
But I was never boulder hopping
Agree about dark, and for most of the summer there is too much bracken too.

Is it too late to ask? Have you done your round yet? I would like to help out on a leg with you if its possible. I am planning my attempt for early september so anything i can do to help really. Any leg.

There is also the Dark Peak/Penistone attempt on the 20-21st and Pennines the week later, I'm sure there are many others if you want to do some support legs.
