West Nab Champs

So, the circus moves south across the M62 from Mytholmroyd (big thank you to Al & his team for a great set of races at Coiners) to Meltham & the West Nab races on May 31st.

Last held in 2004, Holmfirth Harriers & Meltham CE Primary School are looking forward to hosting the races once again on what will be slightly different versions to when the Brownlees were winning the U12's & U14's races!

We are very grateful to the local farmers & Meltham Shooting Club for allowing us to race over their private land. We will be posting a 'training route' map on the website in due course & would ask that if anyone does wish to recce their route prior to race day, they keep to the public & permissive footpaths only. The actual race routes will be available at Registration on the day of the race itself.

The Junior Championships have been a great success so far this year, with ever increasing numbers taking part. We look forward to welcoming you all to the Holme Valley on May 31st & anticipate another set of keenly fought races.

OK folks, update for you - there are now maps of the routes available via the Harriers West Nab race page.

For those of you able to get across for a look prior to race day, can I just remind you that the quarry above Sun Royd Farm is private land and must not be crossed other than during the race itself. The area has been marked on the map so there are no excuses! The farmer has very generously allowed us to use the quarry for the race, but this would be jeopardised if people ignore this request.

We've been out tonight in the rain & all looking good so far. Might have to get the scythe out for some encroaching bilberry & heather, but looks like we'll beat the bracken!

Thanks again for the great turnout on Saturday - hope you all enjoyed yourselves in the sunshine?!

Just to say results are now on the Fellrunner website. If anyone spots any errors, please let us know ASAP.

As I mentioned at the prize-giving, because people had to leave before the end, we will be holding a draw for the 2 vouchers kindly donated by Pete Bland Sports for the pairs of Walsh shoes. I'll be posting these out to the lucky winners this week.

Thanks again & we now move on to the Duddon Valley for some Uphill entertainment!

These English Championship races are coming thick & fast now - only 10 days until this year's West Nab races!

The race page has been updated, so please take a look. Only significant change from last year is that the U18 Girls will run the same course as the U16's, as it was felt the full route was a little too much.

Registration opens at 11.00, with the first race (U8's) setting off at 12.30 & finishing off with the Seniors/U18 Boys at the slightly later time of 3.15.

As we are slap in the middle of the lambing season, please can everyone ensure that no dogs are taken anywhere on the race route. Failure to respect the farmers' wishes could jeopardise future events.

Have just come back from clearing remaining vegetation & course is looking pretty good. Assuming no unexpected rain overnight, the going will be dry, with occasional squelchy bits!

Don't forget, registration opens at 11.00 & if you haven't printed a standard entry form off, there will be plenty available.

The school is putting on refreshments once again, so please bring your change & help swell their PTA funds.

And finally, please don't forget, no dogs on the course, as there are very young lambs skipping around!

Just a reminder that this year's West Nab race is on Sunday 22nd May. A full programme of junior races & the senior race this year will also incorporate both the FRA English U20 Championship & (some would say more importantly) the Yorkshire U23 Championship!

Registration opens at Meltham CE School at 11.00am, with the U8's first off at 12.30. The school's PTA will be providing refreshments once again, so bring a couple of quid to boost their funds!

Weather forecast changing every day, so if you're U14 & older, bring your waterproofs, as you might need them!

Couple of items of lost property to report.

Left up at the field we have a PB Sports red bum-bag, with pair of Nike gloves & a Buff buff, whilst from the hall we found a grey Gap Kids zip fleece (age 10-11) & a pair of black Trespass waterproof trousers aged 7-8. Any takers, please let me know & we'll try & reunite you!

Won't be at Anni Waltz, but likely to be at a couple of Bunny Runs & then Coiners.

Forgot to mention on the day of the race, but in addition to the Championship prizes, we also had a couple of Pete Bland vouchers that had been kindly donated, which we could award as we saw fit. As people were heading home at different times, we decided to have a draw afterwards, with all junior runners' numbers in the hat!
I'm pleased to say that the lucky winners are Benjamin Giles (Lancaster & Morecambe) and Emily Wright (Holmfirth Harriers). Congratulations to you both - your vouchers are on their way!

Still no takers for the bum bag & the fleece top?
