I make my own granola and eat with yogurt. I know it's bad form but it's lovely. Always porridge on race day tho.
Ennerdale.
Oh sorry I see what you mean.
S'a secret ;) .......
OK, smart arse, I oven bake a bunch of seeds mixed with maple syrup and honey. Still making it (ish) :p
Love porridge but can't race on it, so have muesli instead. I chose a low sugar one & add loads of nuts & seeds & eat a small banana. Seems to do me ok
Very simple here, either 3 weetabix with dark brown sugar or a decent sized portion of porridge with fruit and/or syrup
I usually make enough to last a couple of weeks.
2tbsp sunflower oil
125ml maple syrup
2tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla essence
300g rolled oats
50g sunflower seeds
4tbsp sesame seeds
50g pumpkin seeds
100g flaked almonds
100g dried berries (I buy a mixed raisins bag)
50g desiccated coconut
Turn oven to 150c.
Mix together oil, syrup, honey and essence in bowl.
Tip in rest, except berries and coconut, mix really well.
Tip onto two large baking sheets and spread evenly and thinly. Bake for 15 mins
Mix in berries and coconut, then bake for a further ten mins.
Scrape onto a flat tray to cool.
Store in airtight container for up to one month.
K?
:)
Coco Pops.
My favourite is bitesize shredded wheat with a chopped up banana in them.
a moosli-granola mix, with bite size shredded wheats/F&F on top if I remember to buy them.
Full english, hold the toms.
Usually porridge ( no milk ) with a dozen grapes and a satsuma; otherwise a couple of shredded wheat ( supposedly zero added sugar and zero added salt ) with a drop of semi-skimmed.
Porridge with added "summer fruits" and dark bitter drinking chocolate....or 4 weetabix with banana, dark grapes,,,and a 1000mg codliver oil capsule.
In the true spirit of fellrunning... whatever was cheapest when you were at the shops.
I did read somewhere that muslie with lots of dired fruit isn't great as the sugars cause a spike and subsequent crash in blood sugar about 25mins after consumption.. dunno how true this is or not..
Bagel - cinnamon and raisin with strawberry jam.
Bacon butty with mayo and brown sauce or Ready Break with lots of sugar.
Plus several strong coffee's.
You can get oats, barley flakes, rice flakes , Millett flakes etc. etc from Holland & Barrett. Mix 'em up with sunflower, pumpkin seeds, raisins, whatever tickles your fancy. After a few attampts you'll find a formula that works for you. Or, if you're feeling lazy, they have a muesli base. I like the Linwoods milled flaxseed & nuts sprinkled on my porridge & muesli. I'm getting hungry..............
Porridge oats mixed with oatbran and water with a spoon full of honey, fills you up and keeps hunger at bay a great way to start the day.
Cook a pan of Long grained brown rice , leave to go cold and mix with low fat fruit yogurt .Low fat easy to digest and plenty of carbs. If you cook a decent pan full this will keep in the fridge for a few days and that is breakfast done easy.
Keep a few cans of tinned fruit (in juice not syrup) in the fridge use half , mix with dry porridge oats.my daughter (seven yrs old) loves this with a combination of special K or ,oats, weetabix etc. good source for fruit and carbo intake, again low fat and easy to do.
Anyone who makes porridge with water is a wrong en!
100% of the runners in my house wouldn't touch cereal with a bargepole. If we extrapolate from this it is clear that this is really not a suitable means of nutrition for fellrunners. Maybe it's all right for trail runners...
On Tuesdays.
During week weetabix with sultananas, bananna and red grape and or blue berries. But on race day a bananna and a packet of jaffa cakes on way there.
Dorset cereal is good stuff.
Only available in Dorset? Is there a gritty, NORTHERN type musileeeeee? Not that softie southern stuff!
Muesli and Yoghurt
Porridge oats toasted at home, with whatever extras seeds, fruits, nuts thrown in
That said my favourite brekkie is scrambled eggs on home made bread with Oak roasted salmon
If struggling for time, wholemeal bagel, sliced in half, both sides spread with almond butter & sliced banana. A knockout flavour combination !
Hmm that's sounds not bad jez , might try it ?
