Do any of you guys have a map of the Mount Famine race route?

Email Steve Temple address at bottom of the page following this link.
I'm sure he will put one up on his site.
This is a tough race - twice up Mount Famine with a climb up South Head in between.
It is the second of a series of three races over the weekend.
May Queen (Friday) and Lantern Pike Dash (Sunday) are the others. Details via the link above.
Here's a description of the route of earlier races - I expect this year's will be similar. There's a map here...

Start at foot of Elle Bank (SK 045 866) and climb to top (flagged
section). Bear left to follow path by wall and follow wall round to
the right. Bear left to cut off corner of wood and descend through
trees to path to descend to gate (052868). Through gate and turn
right uphill and proceed along ridge path (Dragon's Back) to summit of
Mount Famine (056849). Continue downhill to cross stile and descend
to bridleway (058846). Cross bridleway and ascend to summit of South
Head (060845) then bear slightly left to descend to bridleway again
(062846).
Descend Dimpus Clough leaving path at flagged section near 061851 and
turn left to reascend following stream uphill. Bear right near 059849
to climb back up to stile below Mt Famine (056848). Retrace route
over Mt Famine back to gate at 052868. Straight ahead at gate to
descend on bridleway past Stones House and on past start. Follow
bridleway then road (Valley Rd) back towards Hayfield. Turn right then
left (marshalled) at 040867 to enter Recreation Ground and cross
bridge then turn right to finishing straight and finish at 038868.
I agree with swoop, this is a tough race, and probably the hardest in the hayfield area. The start up Ellebank(a 2min climb on a 1in3) is a killer for the thighs and makes getting going again very difficult.
Some very fast times over recent years by the late John Taylor, Lloyd Taggs and John Brown. All were around 40 secs outside the record on a slightly longer route.
The course was lengthened again last year by about 2minutes.Even so the best intermediate time to the top of southhead, that I've witnessed was 18.37 by John Brown in 2003.Awesome!
Aim to be along for this one as I've entered the Hayfield champs. Will need to get some short, severe runs in as prep by the sounds of it!
this race has the most ridiculous start. I remember the first time I did it, we jogged out along the path after registering and everyone stopped. I remember thinking 'this is a bit narrow for a start'...then everyone turned to face a ridiculously steep bank and I thought 'surely not'....but it was!!
this is one of our club counters, sounds........great :)
So, any takers for this? I'll be there with the family. Any good place to spectate aside from seeing everyone stagger back into the recreation ground? ;)
tripping over for this, sounds a good one, anyone know what it is like underfoot at the mo,is it boggy or has it dried out with the sunny weather we have had recently.
I'm off to Hayfield in a few minutes. Doing the May Queen race at 7.30pm - 3 miles / 750 feet.
Hope not to pick up any injuries for Mount Famine tomorrow!
Looks like rain...

Ground very hard on the course. It is raining at the moment, but it shouldn't affect things too much.
Cor, what an ace run! Start at Elle Bank is scary - I commented on why there weren't any machine gunners hiding in the bushes to make it even harder! :D
Super run out, managed to keep going most of the way on the first half, only walking half of the climb up to South Head. Then the down to Dimpus and up was a real lung buster. Bloomin' cold & blowy on the tops though even though it was hard work. :(
Will be back to do this one again. Thanks to all concerned for organising and heping with the race.
all i can say what a fantastic race, just need to work on my down hill running cost me at least 6 places today but thats life, deffo doing it next year now i know the course, thanks to all involved, once again a belter of a race.
what a great course! really enjoyed this one, good fun dancing over the tussocks
Thanks to Mark Boulton and helpers for running this local classic.
I reckon the new course is only 30-40 seconds longer than the previous course. Not the 2-3 minutes I initially suspected. The only difference was a wider path down into Dimpus Clough.
Hi Christopher, you won a prize I think? Sorry I didn't get to say hello, maybe next time.
The start was great fun too, by the way it will be on youtube soon :)
i'll post a link here and pm you to make sure you get it, one of our guys was filimg the start and finish, might be interesting to see the start if it's not too dark from being 'in the trees'
well done for today:)
Yes, thanks to everybody involved.
First time I've done the 'new' course. I was quite surprised to find I was 3 minutes down on last time (48:50 against 45:45 I think). I suppose we do end up further down into Dimpus Clough, and also I thought we crossed the stream lower down than before, giving less runnable ascent.
Or maybe it's just that I'm getting older!
Well done to John Boyle (DPFR), winning by quite a margin.
Most people I've spoken to would agree with you Geoff. The new course is considerably longer.
At your pace 3 minutes sounds about right. Around 4 minutes for me.
Actually you drop down to the same path but about 30-50meters further along(where Neil was standing). That plus the little bit extra for going wide and rough.I take my split times when I do it and that section only added about 30-40secs.
Years ago they used to go up by the wall on Mount Famine, instead of going wide.
thanks to the origanisers for a terrific race yesterday. I hope the new course is longer than the old one, as I was 8 minutes slower than 6 years ago, either that, or I'm getting too old for this. By the way, I should apologise as there was a phoptographer along the ridge, and on the way back I was clearing my throat just as I reached the photographer, I hope it got caught on the wind and missed him!
You did miss me, fortunately.

Some good snaps on there Chris! :)
Pity you couldn't have touched up my hairline though....:(

At the mount famine race is there anything near by to entertain a toddler for an hour?
I should point out i don't just intend to leave him alone but his mum will be there!
Over at my parents in RV that weekend (16/17May) so may be tempted by this - I've heard/seen all about the start - it goes something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIBoWrqlNNg  :D!!!
I ran this route with Hooker last week and he burned me into the ground with his brown fell shoes
So much so Geoff B had to head off early:eek:
