Tree Sparrows are starting to build a nest in the nest box at home.
They're elusive little birds, not commonly seen compared with House Sparrows.
I feel privileged to have them about.

We saw a badger on last nights run. I didn't realise how quickly they can run. Apparently they can reach speeds of 19 miles per hour.
First skylarks up on the tops, singing his little heart out, a harbinger of spring.
I spent 20 seconds eyeballing a Peregrine Falcon from 3 feet away today. Returning from a Pennine handicap I saw something in the road. I slowed down and a beautiful Peregrine had a freshly killed pigeon in its talons. Even when I stopped in the car and wound down my window it still didn't move. Only when another car pulled up behind me did it drag its kill into the undergrowth. It was great to see such a beautiful bird close up. Made my day.
We saw a badger a few weeks ago on the road to Helwith bridge from Austwick. Also a tawny owl. Curlews are back and it was great to hear them and the lapwings on the Haworth Hobble yesterday,.
Very showy singing chiffchaff this morning near Barden Bridge
In Teesdale, the lapwings are whirling, the curlews are lamenting, and the snipe are 'vibrating' all of which means several local farmers are just now muck-spreading and chain-harrowing their higher intakes! What is that about...eh?
My neighbour who farms the field above us marks nests on his fields with little poles, then he doesn't accidentally run them over in his quad.
