Sickness and Diarrhoea virus,
I have been laid low for the last couple of days because of the above, it has kinda given me a chance to join here so not all bad, however I was just getting back to fitness after being involved with other sports over the winter and injury, so now find myself laid up again.
Anybody else had this bug? and how long before you got back to proper training? We have a club trail run at the weekend of just under 8miles, I don’t think I could run it competitively but I am thinking of a jog round.

Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Had a 24hr sickness and diarrhoea bug on my second day of a week and a half's leave last Friday (typical). In bed all day with a temperature and everything. Symptoms going next morning, but still felt weak and appetite didn't fully return until Sunday. Still managed a quick run round Pen y Ghent with the missus on the Saturday. Been 100% since Monday.
Hope you're feeling better soon.
Edit: Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
V+D has multiple causes - some causes people bounce back from very quickly, others the effects linger for longer. Play it by ear, and take it easy to start with. A couple of days off will do no harm, and then a cautious gentle outing or two will give you a good idea as to where you stand.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
You might want to plan your first couple of runs with emergency pit stops in mind. I speak from experience..

Make sure you don't overexert yourself or shit could go down....your leg
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
I was in bed for a week with the above, then I had a week of dizziness due to low iron levels, just got back to work and came down with a cough and cold..4 weeks of no running..tearing my hair out..hope you feel better soon.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
2 days bad sickness and diarrhoea then a week of feeling knackered, lip exploded into a cold sore too. Feeling a lot better now though, wife had a week of it.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Southernsoftie, your time scale of illness sounds the same as mine, I am feeling better today in myself, tummy still a bit unsettled just windy (sorry too much detail:o) no worries about taking loo roll on runs, one of my training mates can’t do the first 3 miles of a training run without having to pop behind a bush:confused:, so he will always have some with him. One of the club mates rang tonight for our normal Thursday run, but I left it and will go for a gentle run with the wife tomorrow then will see how that goes, if all well I will run on Saturday.
OKmum33 and Steve I hope you are both back up to full speed soon, I got septicaemia while in Agile and Bute from what started as insect bite on my hand last year(a warning there) that knocked me off for over a month, was just getting on my top form as well, so you both have my sympathy I know how you feel.
Thanks to the rest for all your advice.

Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Well did a slow steady 4 miles flat running with the wife tonight, felt OK no need to slip behind the bushes, and found out the club run is not till Sunday so looking good for a run, happy days.

Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Good news Tahr, pleased to say my bowels of satan are virtually back to normal now, appetite's back too. Was gutted to miss the Haworth Hobble but planning on a long run on sunday to make up for it, sympathies to anyone else still suffering with it.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Thanks Steve
Good to hear that you to will be soon back up to top speed.

Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
My whole household has been hit by this, it even hospitalised my 1 year old for 4 days. Very nasty bug, this most ill i've felt since the first time I had shingles 7 years ago.

Sounds like Norovirus - highly infectious - this is the bug that regularly closes hospital wards and affects cruise ships - nasty to have/watch but it usually settles very quickly. Hope you are all on the mend.

Yeah we're good thanks. Pretty harrowing experience seeing your baby hooked up to lines for fluids and being fed through an NG tube.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
I had it and didnt run for 3 weeks.
Dont beat yourself up about missing out on training. The rest will do you good and it gives your motivation an extra-boost when you do resume normal services!

Good news mate, my daughter nearly died from dehydration aged 6 months, in hospital for 4 days, not a nice experience, good health to you and your family.
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
What Steve said, Conan. Sort of puts my one day out of action in perspective. Glad all's well :)
Re: Sickness and Diarrhoea vir
Sorry - Bit of a thread resurrection here but just adding my voice that I had this exact same thing around the same time. The most ill I've felt in years to the point I took my first ever day off work sick. Came on without warning. Didn't seem to knock my running too much, I was able to get back into it fairly easily.
