Why do my fell shoes smell ?
I have noticed that my fell shoes, Walsh PBs, stink, when compared to my other running shoes. I dont normally have smelly shoes, or running shoes, so am wondering what reasons running on hills are for this. I can only assume its the high bacteria content in the mud on the hills am running on, from the sheep and cow numbers 2s on the hill, and the fact that my shoes get soaked right through on a weekly basis. Was wondering if other people have this same problem and what they do about it. Could you put them in the washing machine or would that effect the glue.
Re: Why do my fell shoes smell
I usually just stomp about in a puddle for a bit. Washing machines are supposedly DEATH for running shoes. If they get really bad, a bit of warm soapy water and a gentle brush off.

they can't be any worse than a peak bog! I hose mine out and then leave to dry in a covered porch.
If you do put them in the machine check with the mrs that she not putting in a whites wash afterwards as this may cause you physical pain...
use a cold rinse cycle or a delicates at the very least, no spin

does anyone remember the nike shoes stink riddle in old fellrunner mags int early 80 s.one guy even found an old poem called ;the croak of the bullfrog'the scent of the nike; or summat refering to an old english plant ,the nike.it was a p*sstake tween fell and roadrunners:confused::confused:
Re: Why do my fell shoes smell
I give mine a rinse out with cold water and then stuff them with newspaper overnight. Once the paper is wet through I just leave my shoes to air dry. Seems to be working so far.

I take mine in the shower with me and get rid of any obvious mud, give them a good rinse, and then stuff them with newspaper, changing the newspaper after 24 hours - no troublesome smell, and I suspect it means they last longer.
