Hope Wakes, a good first race?
Hi,
I'm new to fell-running and was thinking of entering the Hope Wakes as my first "proper" race. I did the Box Hill race in January, which is similar in terms of distance and ascent, but I imagine the "trail" is a lot more fell-like/non-existent at Hope Wakes. Is there some glaring problem in my logic, or is Hope Wakes a reasonable place to start?
Thanks for any advice,
Matt

It's a brilliant race!! Great course. My partner did it last year. I was injured so couldn't run but I went to the the point as they come off Win Hill (very steep with a lot of disengaged brain runners) to count them past. The first 65 got a t-shirt as it was the 65th anniversary of the race. My fella got his t-shirt :-). Great atmosphere and a real traditional friendly competitiveness. Go and check out that descent though! Lots are windmil arms coming down that :-)!

Hi Matt,
I too reckon its a great race, though I won't be running it myself as I'm there providing free pre and post-race sports massages (as we did last year!). my other half will be running though. I'm also biased about this race as Win Hill is my favorite hill ever

Thanks very much for that guys. Unfortunately I live in London, so not sure whether I'll get a chance to check out the descent beforehand. Maybe I'll just walk that bit :-)
