Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
You lot can scoff but I for one would love a copy of Stud Marks - and I don't mean a photocopy!
I bought some expensive books earlier this year (such as £350 for William Green's 1819 Guide to the Lakes) so I'm not allowed any more at the moment. Children to feed and all that! Paying good money for rare books isn't so freaky.

Sell the children to pay for a copy of SMOTS, then as well as having a copy of SMOTS you'll also have more money to buy other books?
It's a win-win!

You might have enough to buy both of my copies (signed by Bill Smith).
How many children have you got?
-
Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
Three children Graham, but no-one's buying so I can't afford your books. Why have you got two copies of this one?
Apart from the obvious, that you have the same slightly obsessive and nerdy habit for books that I have!

One copy is to lend to my friends.
Well my chum has a First Edition (or nearly) of every book ever shortlisted (6 a year) for the Booker Prize and which he never lends. Now that is obsessive.

There has been a copy on Ebay for several months now priced at £162.00 (Buy It Now)
Clearly it is no longer worth this sum and somebody should offer the seller a price below £100 for it.

The £162 copy is a book seller ie not a fellrunner who would like £100.
In the world of second hand books dealers will wait years for a buyer to meet their price.
Whereas in my case: a deal is a deal.
-
Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
The thing is I've read SMOTS before so I know the ending. It just isn't the same second time round.

Most book sellers, in my experience, would prefer selling their stock for a reasonable profit rather than hanging on until the market changes.
I have already got one dealer to reduce his price to £125 per copy. He originally wanted over £200! I didn't buy it as most collectors will not pay over the odds for this book.
In my opinion a resonable buying price would be between £50 and £70 pounds depending on quality.

Owning SMOTS is about more than the contents of a book. It is touching the hem.

How much did you get for it?
Only asking as I have one in mint condition so might need to get it insured:w00t:

Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
I got a price that I was satisfied with. Not a ridiculous ammount that seems to be getting bandied about at the moment.

Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
I knew I should have gone to eight quid. Left it too late. Bugger.

"mint"?
the one on ebay "new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages" thathas just sold for £225?
-
Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
I didn't see the copy on EBay but how can a copy of Studmarks possibly be 'new, unread and unused' ? Did it really go for that amount??
-
Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
A new for sale copy has appeared on ebay with the profit going to the John Taylor Foundation.
In the light of the description, relative to the prices recent copies have gone for, this is a bargain.
Given where the funds are going I hope it achieves a good price and it isn't my copy!.
For those who might be hanging on for a reprint, to the best of my understanding there are absolutely no plans or thoughts for SMOTS to be reprinted.

Re: Stud Marks on the Summit
Hi All
Got one in slightly better condition than the description of the one that went on e-bay for £90 + postage.
Would describe the description as good, some folded over corners to the first 20 or so pages, some cover creasing. Fully in tact
Happy to accept bids by PM at over this level.
Settle / Skipton based
Thanks for looking
