We are checking the course at 2pm Friday, and will make a decision then.
Rain is forecast here overnight and tomorrow morning, and this may clear the ice.

Dear All,
We have just completed a course inspection for the Ashurst Beacon race. Our hope was that the overnight rain, and current thaw would have cleared the ice from the course. Unfortunately this has not happened to the extent where racing would be safe. Many long sections of the route are completely ice-covered, and where these are restricted in width due to fences etc there is no alternative safe way to walk the course, let alone race on it. For example. the ascent to the Wiggin Tree is almost impossible. The descents are all quite dangerous. The pub car park is also still covered in 2" of snow/ice.
Regrettably we have had to decide to POSTPONE the race. The pub will still be open, and serving food and showing the football if you are short of something to do!
Instead we will hold it on Wednesday 28th April starting at 7.00pm, all other things remain the same, except hopefully the weather will be better!!
Best wishes to you all
Andy
Fully understand Andy. Around here today has been the worst day yet.
With rain on top of ice it is far worse than it was before.
Was gonna come along for photos - wise decision Andy given the current conditions on the course.
Am gutted, since this was to be my fell-racing come back race. However, the last thing you need after rehabbing a bad back for months is to slip on some ice and set it off again! So I agree, right decision - thanks Andy.
Should make for a tough mid week race actually. Looking forward to the re-scheduled race!
