Running team wanted to join crew of White Cloud.
The race takes the runners from Barmouth to Caenarfon to run up Snowdon (24m). Then Whitehaven for Scafell (30m cycling & 18 running). Then to Fort William for Ben Nevis (18m). Starts 19th June 2010 - takes 3 or 4 days.
White Cloud, an HOD 35, was the fastest boat on the 2008 race both on the water and handicap. Her skipper John Donnelly was co-skipper with Geoff West's EADS Innovation Works the outright winner in 2009. Second in 2009 was another HOD 35 Hazard Chase so the boat is very competitive.

The crew are experienced off-shore racing sailors from the Solent who have sailed and raced together for many years This is their 3rd 3PYR with shore back-up and new sails.

We are looking for 2 runners can can perform as a team and deliver the running/cycling times with the ambition and ability to win the King or Queen of the Mountains trophy. They need time to train on the runs (running and cycling) and ability to navigate in the dark (the crew can look after it at sea!).

If interested, call 02392588179 or johndonnelly@rya-online.net

Hope you don`t mind me putting it back up here John
I suspect they are having problems finding a running team of the kaliber to win the event. Geoff would only be interested in an all out win

Phil, Don't confuse or underestimate the amount of effort it takes to complete this, it does not compare with a national three peaks by car. the mileage is much higher plus there is no time for a rest when racing a yacht. esp if you suffer from sea sickness.

    Thanks for that John K.
    We are still looking.
The runners who do this race think its great to go on their CV as do the sailors.
We and the runners had to do a lot of rowing last year in light wind which might put some off but they had plenty of recovery time between peaks and to admire the scenery.

I don't know but some competitors (particularly those who have done before) don't surface/enter until quite late.

As a debutant to the event this year, the blog has made engaging reading. I'm really looking forward to it but I'm very curious to find out just how ill I _can_ be in a race

    Kishinor since you ask.

We are also looking for a pair of runners. Our team is GFT Adventure. GFT Adventure won Kings of the Mountains on all three peaks last year thanks to Chris and Alan. We are based in Conwy, North Wales, so close to Snowdon and of course the Menai Straits. We would prefer a pair of runners as teamwork is everything. No need to understand sailing, but 'mucking in' is important. We are in brand new boat for this years race, a First 45. if interested, drop me an email: userlou592@aol.com.

Oh Duncan - believe me you can be very ILL.....

I did the race in 2008 and fed the fish for the first 4 hours - felt OK after that though.

What's hard as a non sailing runner is trying to get proper rest as you're either running or being tumble dried.

One tip for the hills - be very sure of your route (or compass bearing) up to and off the summit of Scafell. Both my running buddy and myself have been to the summit loads of times but got hopelessly lost trying to get back off in the dark / mist and threw away a lot of time and energy.

We were running for the crew of Still Smiling.

Don't worry. Our races in 2007 and 2008 were pretty rough at times and our runners got through it pretty well without honking. They stayed below to rest most of the time although the sail to Whitehaven in 07 was not good for sleeping!
    See you on the water.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the sailing sections. I spent some time on N Sea trawlers as a teenager and have also sailed a lot around the Hebrides so I know how ill a person can be without really trying
What I'm not looking forward to is trying to sleep when I know that I _should_ be sleeping but the sea not letting you. Ho hum. I've been getting some inspiration from Alan Brentnall which should stand me in good stead. Something about a cork....

Thanks for the tip about Sca Fell....I've had problems finding my way off it in broad daylight in the Old Counties Tops so I've no idea how we'll manage in the dark!
