Good work Bill, I've still got a score to settle with that route.

So you didnt get lost in the sheepfold before the first fell?
Im planning another attempt ( have to recce the sheepfold) in May.
What line did you take off Great End to Sty Head?
Never found a sheepfold followed a very good bridleway? above the farm then cut across a field to some steps in the wall and just straight up.

NE ridge off Great End (needs crampons just now)

    now)
    where's the adventure in that?
I thought I knew the route, set off in darkness wandered off the bridlepath stumbled around until I realised I was in a sheepfold, it was when I had to crawl through a sheep hole in the wall that I was off route n completely farouked.Slinking back to my car hoping no one saw me set off

loads of respect Baggins, I have just got to leap the first hurdle or sheepfold n I will be well on my way

    Highlights included

from Coniston Old Man to Swirl How, like running along a frozen stream in places, so much ice.

Crinkles to Styhead when the cloud base lowered and it started snowing, visibility went down to about 10m. On the way to Bowfell went straight up a pointy top rather than than a plateau with jumble of rocks on one side, was about to relocate when thought the shape of this top is familiar, I was on the summit

Descent off Great Gable lovely technical challenge, went my BG way (joins the Borrowdale race route lower down) but all trods were banked out, it was the only time I wished I had my crampons on rather than microspikes, had to keep on a higher line to take advantage of the lower angled build up of snow around rocks.

Things that didn't go quite right

Losing my water bottle on Brim fell, this meant I had to drink at a stream using a plastic bag so I got very dehydrated.

Not using a map and compass because I "knew" these fells, lots of time lost due to wanderings on the Caw to Whitless Pike section, dropping down to Wrynose, Cold Pike to the Crinkles and Great End South top to North top

Setting off in the opposite direction from Great Gable summit (brain stopped working ) realised after about 100m but I really wanted off that summit it was a bit rough up there.

Running in circles trying to find the top of Maiden Moor then giving up only to run over the summit that was 30m from where I was looking.

All in all a great night out and a fantastic route, quite fancy it again in daylight in the summer with a bum bag and road support
