Racing to train lately for me. Last 10 days has consisted of flat road 10k in Cheshire (PB at 37:46, pleased with that given lack of any specific training); club run at ~7min/mile for 7 & a bit miles; club summer league race (trail really, one fair accent) 5.1 miles, went out far too hard at 5:44 for first mile; a few gentle runs to work, about 2.6 miles either side of the day; Kinder Downfall on Sunday (reasonable run at 1:23:40 but felt knackered); club run yesterday, left for dust as feeling listless; Masson Hill this evening (35:03 - nothing left in the tank). Looking forward to a few days off & a weekend away (probably with trainers packed to keep the guilt at bay...)

Decided I needed some night training so somewhat foolishly decided to run over Pendle Hill last night. Yes, in THAT weather. Can't recall being wetter, monsoon conditions! Started off with the intention of doing the Full Tour route, that got rapidly shortened and we missed off the return leg down by the reservoir and back to Ogden Clough (i.e. the Geronimo descent). Finished around midnight, soaked.

Did the perfect training session for the Ben Nevis race. Absolutely as specific as I could get the session.

Did 9 miles over Darwen moors and through parts of Roddlesworth woods, was heading for Great Hill but my shoes are giving me a bit of grief at the minute so cut it short...shoe shopping needed but 9 miles in the bag so can't complain, I suppose!

after 16 mile race yesterday I managed a 3 mile "recovery run" in the park this evening (a.k.a shuffling round for about 25 minutes feeling thoroughly miserable)

although the mere fact that I managed to go out and run after a race shows progress. after my first fellrace in may (only 5 miles, albeit a steep one) I could barely get up and down the stairs at work until the following Thursday... putting in the miles each week is slowly starting to pay off...

Hill reps. 6 lots of 55 seconds. I didn't have much time and was supposed to be looking after my boy, so I dragged him out to time me.

Finally decided I need to get myself back in the gym, due to lack of hills around here... not totally neglecting road-running, but I managed to hammer out a good 8 miles of high-tempo running on the treadmill today, mixed with two killer 15 minute steep climbs... the longer climbs are just not possible round here, as the longest hill in my locality can be scaled in approx. 60 seconds...

Also makes it easier to work on core exercises, squats, etc, and I'm keen not to lose the upper body strength I built up from doing Muay Thai...
