    Nice week on Martha's vineyard

M: 10 miles on the way in woods hole 6:55 pace
    T: am: 6.4 miles 7:40 pace. pm: 12 miles 7:30 pace
W: am: 25 mile cycle, 2.5 mile slow run. pm: 10 miles at 6:42 pace
    T: am: 6.4 miles 7:25 pace, pm: 7.2 miles 7:45 pace
F: 19.2 miles cycle ways 7:25 pace, hot day
S: am: 18 miles bike. pm: probably steadyish 10, upper 6's pace.

Then back home to NJ tomorrow I think.. marathon to BQ next weekend and feel OK for it, 19 miler was with just a few hundred mls of water and one cereal bar and felt OK, pretty consistent 7:15-7:20's in the midday heat so think I'll run mid 6's to BQ and get a quality training run in.

That was last Saturday.. I only ran 11 miles in 2 runs that day, plus a swim, sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish.. Stressful morning...

Loving the the cooler New England weather, just upper 20s..

Just over 3000ft of climbing and around 7 miles up hill in the Morzine-Avoriaz bike race this morning.
I came first in class today as I was the only runner but that didn't matter.
I avoided as many of the tarmac switch backs as possible and took as direct a line as I could find up through the woods. Hot going and very rough.
much confused faces though on the start line. 100 bikes and me with a map in hand

Had a coffee at the finish and then ran down so....

add 7 miles and 3000ft descent+ 1 mile and 400ft ascent back to chalet.

I've been out most early mornings with Robin from Penistone over the last 10 days who just happened to be in the same resort.usually 5 miles 500ft.
also plenty of mountain biking that's on one side of the scale
on the other is lots of French cheese/sausage plus beer and wine....not sure which side wins yet, will see when I return to uk

    Legs sore today,

Wanting to run Boston next year I realise I don't have a marathon to use so ran one yesterday, the plan was sub 3 as that will get me in but to be sure I ran sub 2:50 so I can enter on the first day..

Legs sore, felt pretty good for 20 miles, nice training run, sat at 6:20-6:25 for most of it, finished in 2:48.

Chicago now 2 months away really need to add the quality now..

    This afternoon I learnt;

That when you're wet, you're wet
That it's probably better to face a herd of marauding cows than to cut yourself to ribbons on gorse & barbed wire trying to avoid them
That Guinness may give you strength, but that it definitely makes you fat!
That your baggy shorts can soon become too tight
That the fizzle and pop of 400kV overhead lines is much nicer than the sound of Tim 'whatshisface' on Bargain Hunt
That Roclite are rubbish on wet grass
That you need to be careful when you hop the fence to avoid the second herd of marauding cows that there isn't an equally marauding horse on the other side!!
That it's better to tick over rather than become a pie eating couch potato for 6 months
That just getting out is brilliant and that my vest will fit again (one day ) and that if you go through the fields you can walk when no one can see you.

Not a bad week the week after the marathon last Sunday, strangely felt more tired at the end of the week so decided to take Saturday off.. from now on I'm going to be stricter about easy days or rest days at least every 2 weeks.

started my new job this week, assistant XC coach at one of the Penn State Campus's.. so had two easy sessions with them getting the students back to steady training..

m: 5.1 miles 7:40 pace felt OK.. 6 hour round trip for court.. driving without a license.. yet had my UK license.. which the state trooper refused to accept was allowed.. so challenged and got the case dismissed.. Arrived early so fitted in another 3.5 miles just before, lovely area.
t: am: 5,1 miles 8:00 pace. pm: 8.1 miles on trails 7:50 pace
w: 12.9 miles 7:35 pace on road and trail
t: 4.1 miles 7:50 pace. pm: 6 miles with 3 miles with XC team and 3 miles slow checking trails
f: am: 10 miles 6:42 pace legs tired. pm: 5.8 miles with XC team
    s: rest day.. legs sore
w: 16.2 miles progressive long run, 6:39 pace last lot mainly lower 6's.. very warm and muggy so not too disappointed finishing with 6:10-6:20's felt tough.

8 weeks to chicago, may lower the miles a bit and add more quality in the run up.. also need to drop the alcohol and lose a few lb.'s as that's worth a good few seconds/mile in a marathon..
