Antisocial... I will take a look at the races through the link you mentioned. What kind of standards do you need? As mentioned, I am not new to running (mainly trail running except using road routes for training) but I am definitely new to fell running.

sbrt... I will try and get in touch with the clubs and see if I can take a look/join in a training session. Do many people join the clubs from further afield and make trips up to train? I have my first trip up planned but if its enjoyable (im sure it will be) it will become a much more regular occurance.

Denton house private hostel is cracking....start off with Latrigg maybe and then Skiddaw

Find a flat piece of land preferably near a stream and "go cheap" then try Catbells from Stair,Welcome to the "best " type of running. Skiddaw from Latrigg end is a "Motorway"

There is a great camp site just outside Keswick in Braithwaite. Too many fantastic options open from there to mention! Great pub with very good food/beer too!
