the problem in getting in to an ice bath after a race is you need a big freezer in the back of your car to carry the ice. hhm not very practical. the idea is your muscle fibres are damaged by the effort of a hard run and you need to "R(ICE)" to promote recovery as in any muscle tear.
Sitting in a stream has the same if not better effect as it is also refreshing plus it gets the mud off.
I don't swear by it as much as swear when when I do it.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.
funny this, I just tried one today after some over-exertion this morning. Well, not an ice-bath but a bath run just from cold water.
After about two minutes cursing and snorting and gasping I leapt out and then mooched around shivering while I waited for it to empty and refill with hot water.
That's the bit I don't like - not being able to get straight in a warm bath. Shoulda just settled for a shower.
I don't like cold showers, but give me a cold lake, ocean or river, and I'm in like a shot. Love it
As for a bath, probs be same as a shower, if you can't move, then its not going to be nice.
Didn't need an ice bath after todays run. the last 5 miles running in to a strong headwind with alternating heavy rain or sleet were quite cold enough thank you
