regarding the mac issue, garmin are releasing mac versions of the software roundabout now. if it's not out yet, it should be by the end of the month so you'll be twice happy. check the garmin website for download details.

p.s. let us know how you get on with it.

    Re: Garmin 305

Got my Forerunner 305 today. Enjoyment soon took a dive when after 10 mins playing with it at the kitchen table it seems it can't display the current position in OSGB grid format.

Is this correct, and if so, how does this GPS help if lost in clag on the tops? I'm hoping I've missed something obvious, as this has not been raised before...

Apart from that it seems great

'fraid you're right. What you've bought is a training gps as distinct from a navigational gps. It has some navigational functionality but not much TBH.

You can use it to retrace your exact route back to start, or do a B line back to start (need to be careful of drops). See the 76 page manual for more details (a copy is on the Garmin site). You can also mark points on regular routes as you go along (e.g. trig on Knowl Hill) so that if the clag comes down you can navigate to that point. It also gives long and lat if you mark your current location and has a compass built in.
Biriani for endurance, pathia for speed.

duh! I never even thought to check it would give me my current position in OSGB.

This won't suit me, so it's now for sale if anyone wants one? GBP169 plus postage and it's yours...

Anyone got any suggestions for something that is like a 305, but will give OSGB?

yeah, could do but thought someone here may want one. The bigger problem is what to get instead. I spent a while umming and arring over the 305, and forgot to check the basic stuff Now, I'm not sure what to get...

Yes I think so. I've got a foretrex 201 and it's great. The idea behind the 305 was to have a combined stopwatch/gps on my wrist. I just hadn't realised (to the point of not even considering asking!) that the GPS side of it was so poor.
