......flying over Middleton/North Manchester way...are there actually flights happening today?
The object didnt appear to have any flashing red lights but it is cloudy......we often get the police chopper over here but it didn't seem like that to me. It was an orange light traveling at reasonable speed.

Could be a heli coming to fight the fires above the Wessenden Valley. I was up there an hour or so ago and the fire was about 300 feet wide.
Didn't get to see inside the craft itself - but in North Mancheser I reckon it might have looked like this

Light aircraft were flying in & out of Barton Aerodrome on Saturday afternoon, as observed from the Barton flyover on the M60. They don't fly as high as the commercial boys, hence keeping below the soot.
