My local rag had a story this week about the Mountain Rescue Service.
Apparently on New Years Day they rescued 3 Darlington men who were running from Ambleside to Patterdale in high wind and rain. One was suffering from hypothermia and they were all led to the safety of an isolated farm.
I was in that range of hills a day or two earlier and faced similar appalling conditions. I was pretty cold but surely warmer than the two intrepid souls I met walking a similar route to what I had originally intended before turning back when the wind was too strong to allow movent in any other direction than with the gale. I warned them of the trouble they would encounter ahead but wondered if they ever made it without turning back as I had.
Does anyone know any more about these rescued runners? Are they alright now? I'm sure they would have checked the forecast so would know the weather was going to be poor, so what were the circumstances that led to the trouble?
