Thread: Today's mushroom!

    Today's mushroom!

Well its autumn, and its the season for mushrooms is it not?

Does anyone have any experience of picking wild mushrooms, I am really keen to do this but am slightly concerned about poisoning myself (or getting off my heed inadvertedly!)...

does anyone have any tips/advice/tells to tale?

Best go on a guided mushroom hunt to find out, the best book on the subject is VERY expensive and very big, i've yet to find a good pocket guide.

The number of poisonous mushrooms is actually quite low but there are a large number that are unpalatable.

unfortuanatly the poisonous ones are very poisonous.

    Re: todays mushroom!

I have a vivid memory of going out with my dad one Sunday morning when I must have been perhaps 7 or 8 years old, and collecting huge mushrooms with fluted black undersides and creamy tops from a field containing horses before taking them home for my mum to fry in the pan with bacon (and quite probably lard). My dad passed away nearly thirty years ago and I have no idea where it was though

Shaggy Ink Cap's have a lovely nutty taste and are easy to recognize.

I've not seen any of the recipes, I just found the site so you'd know what the ink caps look like. Pick them carefully (they damage easily) and lightly fry them.

Puffballs are fairly foolproof aren't they?
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.
