Anyone out for a trot up n down Helvellyn on Sunday ?
I need to know - how bad is the steep descent ? Will I need (& I'll put this delicately, if not tactfully) to take a spare pair of (boxer) shorts ?

start and finish are VERY steep.
I got shouted at and accused of cheating a few years ago by male competitors who were upset at by bum slide tactics on the descent ( i was wearing running tights and i think they were just jealous)
Good race though, shame we are away in the SW or I would be tempted to run again. Nice food in barn too!
When I mentioned to a guy I was ascending next to that I hadn't crawled this much since I was a kid, he pointed out he hadn't since he last upset his wife...
'Normal' people are the ones you don't know very well.
I'll be having a go at this. It does look rather steep
If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

Can be very intimidating when wet. New studs and a confident approach recommended. As mentioned, lycra would help take the sting out of any involuntary bumsliding.
For some reason I'm going to do this even though I'm scared of heights.
I've done Ben Nevis reasonably ok - how does this compare?
going up = steep
going down = steep but quicker than going up. Not too bad - just take it steady - it's on grass. It does take it out of your legs a bit but the desecnt is near the end so ok.
Thanks Marvin!
I don't mind steep in general, but vertical scrambling worries me. In the Coledale Horseshoe race, I love (really love) the ascent up to Grisedale Pike, but I find the climb up to Crag Hill (Eel Crag) a bit alarming, often thinking I might get freeze and get Crag Bound.
I'm a bit worried Helvellyn will be a lot lot worse than Eel Crag and I haven't had a chance to reccy!
there's no scrambling at all on this race (as i remember) - its all really nice grassy running apart for the impossibly steep start (and finish as its more or less out and back) the steep bit though is just grass - a bit like the side of whernside in the three peaks - only longer and steeper!
