I'll be honest and say my first ones were not the coolest. I started off musically by following my dad's tastes before finding my own feet.
First album I bought was Dire Straits (a greatest hits I think). Single, was either America fm West Side Story (released at time of USA '94 World Cup) or B52's Flinstones theme tune. Not sure which is worse. Actually, B52s by a long way
One of first albums I received in a mix bag of cassettes that I really loved, was some Matt Bianco thingy. And a Lemonheads album, but was too young to appreciate.
It did get better...

The first album I bought was Wind & Wuthering (Genesis) - still play it 30 years later!
My first single was what used to be termed a double A-side: Lies / Don't Drive My Car (Status Quo)
"And the winds blow and the sky looks cool / So I make my home in the clouds"

That was my first album too. Bought from a chemists if my memory serves me correctly. It was brilliant. Liked Battle of Britain best.
First single was Crazy Horses by The Osmonds. Merrill had a good voice!
First single was either 'Rupert The Bear', or 'White Horses' (both by Jacqui Lea)
