Thread: steeplechase

    steeplechase

I am making my debut in the steeplechase on saturday and am quite worried about going flat on my face over it.
I have never jumped over a one in my life not even in training.
I'm not that fit either so i'l be knackered, will i make round in one piece?

2K or 3 K? When I was a junior I ran a 2K off no steeplechase training and about 20mins practice over the barriers before hand - I found it reasonably easy. My first 3K as a senior in British League nearly killed me! I haven't run one since!

Who are you racing for Bone?

I did the Northern Cup Final last year, 20 mins after running the 10k. Had planned to practice some barriers, but I had to pick up a medal, so didn't get the chance. First time over the barrier was in the race, was fine and a lot of fun, so don't worry.

    Re: steeplechase

When warming up & attempting a few barriers before the race don't be surprised if you find yourself running around/stopping at the barriers. You'll be fine when the race starts.

One other point, a steeplechase race is much more demanding than a flat race of equivalent distance, give yourself a couple of easyish laps to settle into it or you'll be dying over the last couple of laps.

    Good luck.

Is it a Cheshire League meeting?
I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.
