    Re: Sedbergh Gala Fell Race

It should be a fascinating race at Sedbergh on Saturday, the first of the BOFRA championships. Simon Barnby, from Sedbergh School, who had such a good performance at the Three Peaks also storms the short distances as shown by his runs at the Kendal Winter League. Helm Hill's Tom Addison is on form at the moment; he's flying in training and has his first FRA win at Pinhaw Moor on Friday. The forum's very own AG has some impressive runs last year and hopefully we'll see him again this year. Previous champion Ted Mason always has it in him to do well at Sedbergh. Mark Horrocks and his ascending speed could do well on the steep course. Hopefully the RAF will give Lee Athersmith a weekend or two off too. Then there are always the ringers that turn up. Sedbergh is Joe Symond's local race, and he's not on the Fairfield entry list. Any wins this year will be well earned.

So here's hoping for some good weather for all at the show on Saturday.

Fitness can't be stored. It must be earned over and over, indefinitely.

    Had a great day out.

Children were buzzing after their run and Chris was pleased with his fifth place.

I know, I felt really bad for them. Normally they go first, and the seniors last; so by rights, that was for us.

If they liked that, they'll love Coniston Gullies. Not such a long run out. They are straight up the hill.

    Did you run today?

Thanks for that, I'll let them know! We've nothing else on that day so we'll probably be there.

No, I had two other smaller Jolivers to look after today. I actually have a number for this years Bofra races so maybe I'll make my debut sometime soon.

A disappointing run for me. I've been back training for 5 weeks (the same as when I started fell running last year) but I've finished 14th in my first two races back (this and Mytholmroyd). Last summer I rarely finished outside the top 10 even in stronger fields. I think it could be due to the lack of hills in my legs. Last summer I was training on the hills in Rossendale, but this summer I've been doing all my milage around flat football pitches at Hough End and along the river Mersey. Although fitness is fitness isn't it?

Either way, it's really frustrating as I don't seem to have any energy on the climbs. I know for sure that last summer I'd have stayed with them on yesterdays climb, as sharp climbs are my strong point.

How did you get on (not sure of your real name)?

No it's not. You won't be strong on the climbs if you haven't been training for them but you've obviously got good background fitness so you should find that the climbing will improve quite quickly if you just keep racing.
