    Mountain Trial

Yesterday saw the 60th running of the Lake district Mountain trial ( at second time of asking ). Running from Patterdale, encompassing St Sunday Crag, North to the Dodds and cossing back and forth across the Helvellyn range.

Results, maps and routes here (http://results.sportident.co.uk/home...7-9a80b55df790)

An interesting field in the classic, but a strange age profile, tending towards the upper end?
Was this always the case. Is it a bit of a specialised event introducing a big element of route choice ( see the short course leg 1-2) into an already tough event , not many people got near 4 hours, most nearer 6.

This was my first LDMT and so only took on the short course but boy was that tough! There was an interesting route choice conundrum from CP1-2 on both the medium and short. I took the longer but largely runnable tour round via Grizedale tarn and doubt I lost much time on those going direct via Striding Edge.
Had the weather had been better, I would have probably gone via via hard tarn and nethermost pike.
The consensus of opinion seemed to be that the short course was definitely much longer/tougher than recent years - you only need to compare winning times to see that.
Good food afterwards and nice memento too.
    A shame Joss retired though...
