I had not noticed this. Ian was fourth in the Juniors race and I hope the open laces did not impede his progress. Is there not a special method for tying fell shoes such that the laces do not become untied - as referred to in Richard Askwith's book "Feet in the Clouds". ( I am reading this book and strangely enough have just read this)
