    Joe

    Thanks for the info.

Will a route map be available at the time of entry, or will that only be made available some time later?

    Cheers

Bugger! I've been watching this thread for a while and had pretty much made up my mind to do the TdH in December - I'm always in the Lakes at that time of year anyway and it sounds right up my street. Trouble is, although I've been going out for long runs in the Lakes in winter all by myself for years now (I come from a hillwalking background so am happy navigating and carrying kit), and I know I could easily cover the ground in 12 hours whatever the weather decides to do, I haven't done any 'qualifying' events, just a few AL races in the Lakes and the odd LDWA thing here and there.

Not knocking you or the entry requirements at all here Joe - I think it's great that you're organising something like this at a time of year when there's not much other long-distance stuff happening in that part of the world, and I probably wouldn't do so myself for fear of muppets turning up! I'm just a bit disappointed to have to wait another year (don't think I'll be able to get the requisite 40-mile event in before entries for this fill up), so thought I'd have a bit of a moan about it.

    Hello Trim Trab, and others,

Just picking up on your comments - whilst I need to be harsh and firm I'm also willing to listen to exceptional cases. I'm well aware that some people do not like doing formal events but will have done epic solo journeys which, to me are highly relevant and prove self-reliance. So, if you feel there is a gap or flaw in my guidelines, and can evidence other experience then I will consider it.

As I write now, I'm still finalising the entry procedure, and preparing permit documents. I can not confirm route info prior to these permits being issued, but I suggest that you read the variety of blogs out there from 2010 as it won't change much. However, I do feel it's strange that people what to do something when they don't know where it goes....

    Yours,

    Joe

Hmm. Be fair Joe. When I entered in February I thought I did know where it went. I hope you've invested my £20 prudently...

[Edited to make it clear this comment was tongue in cheek & not intended as a dig at Joe! I'm keen to be lining up on 17 December, if not as fit as I was in July...]

Thanks for the reply Joe, I totally understand where you're coming from. I'll state my case as best I can when entries open!
