Down the east or left hand side of Thirlmere?

There is a track along the lake shore on the west and a woodland route down the east. The checkpoint appears to be on the dam so I figured they were heading you around the west side, but maybe it'd be quicker to retrace steps and go east?

Joe has banked my cheque, so I guess it's going ahead and they've got enough entries.
Why walk when you can run.

Ben, the website has been updated and the route from the checkpoint at Stanah footbridge is above the fell wall and then after Swirls carpark along the forest tracks to Dunmail footbridge. (I found the forest tracks the least interesting part when I did the loop a few days ago.) There is no checkpoint at the dam, so the route is on the east of both Thirlmere and the main road.

Sticks Pass on Friday, with Mrs DFTS enjoying the conditions.

Oo-er. So what shoes should I wear then? (Don't tell me, ones that I can nail to a couple of strips of floorboard. )

If conditions do not improve, do you think it might be called off?

    From the TdH website:

Update - It's too early to make any decisions about Le Tour - in two weeks time it might all be green!

When we planned the event, making the route 'weatherproof' was one of the key factors, including access to Askham. I'd be very surprised if we need to cancel; if we need to making a change it will be to shorten the route, with a turn around at Greenside most likely. Out and back routes do have their advantages!

Keep in touch with the website for any updates - see you at Askham.

    Joe - Saturday 4th December

So if we turn at Greenside, how long would that make the run? (sorry don't have maps here)

The forecast for Saturday is looking a bit dire - sub-zero and snow. The positive is no gales.

Forecast not quite so bad now. The snow may miss us. I just hope I can make it back down south on Sunday.

    Really looking forward to this.
