what trail shoes for motion co

Physio said I ideally need motion control shoes. which is ok if your on the road but can I buy trail shoes that have motion control?

I'm training in inov8's roclites at the moment.

can anyone recomend a trail shoe with motion control (or more stability)?

    cheers
    Craig.

I may be wrong, but given the uneven nature of the off-road terrain, I don't think 'motion control' is an option. From what I understand, the best way to protect your feet off-road is to keep it as close to the ground as possible, thus reducing the danger of 'falling off' the shoe (think platform boots a la 70's!) Some have a bit more padding to soften impact, roclites (the 'four arrow jobs') being among them.
    Good luck...

Do you want them for fell running, or what some would call 'trail' running, ie woodlands, towpaths, proper paths etc? If the latter, plenty of fairly supportive trail shoes about. Get yerself to a proper running shop and talk to knowledgeable staff, I'm sure they'll gladly help you out.

sefton, you're probably looking at the trail versions of road shoes as made by Asics, Saucony, Mizuno, Nike, etc. But I wouldn't know which models are motion control etc

Even Runners World have stopped touting motion control shoes. Their latest wet foot print guide (which by the way is a load of unscientific BS) suggests that you only need a stability shoe now if you've got the big spade feet.

Simple truth is if you want to compound your injury further, buy motion control shoes.

They do not allow your foot to function naturally.

I had all sorts of problems trying to run with motion control shoes, I found the best option was to go for a shoe with so little padding there is no motion to control. I use inov-8 F-lite 195s if I don't need too much grip, and have just got some x-talon 190s for when I need a bit more grip.

Motion control might be helpful when road running - and therefore making thousands of identical foot landings - but off road, where every foot landing is different - I cannot believe it is a useful concept.
