    Question Live Tracking Device

    Please help.
Is there a piece of GPS technology (live tracking device) that will allow my moving position, whether on a bike, running or kayaking to be displayed live on the internet?
I am taking part in a long physical event and want to be able to send data to the internet throughout the event.
i.e. so my mum can keep an eye on me and my progress. abit like on the 3 peaks with the dibbers etc.
    I hope that makes sense....
    why do we do?

Some mobile phones can do this, They're not quite as accurate as a GPS as they use the local masts but they do work.

As Ian said, lots of mobile phones can do that kind of thing. Some have GPS built in so can be fairly accurate, although battery life can be an issue. I used to have some software for my old N95 (i.e. running on a Nokia phone running the Symbian OS) that could upload my location to the interweb, and there are similar (free) programs for Android phones e.g. http://www.instamapper.com/overview.html . If you want details of the Nokia software then PM me and I can probably find out - I have passed my old N95 on to my girlfriend but the software is probably still installed.

The SPOT seems to have had mixed reviews. I'd be interested if anyone on here has used one. Looks great if it works.

Cheaper still if you can get someone to bring one back from the US. I noticed there was a company who hired them out too. Might be worth a trial. Someone should try one on a Bob Graham. That would be good to see someone's position in real time.
