Well, tomorrow's actually. Starting a 6 week course as part of my plan to avoid injury. Can't wait.

Hey me too i've got my first appointment with a pilates instructor physio on the 1st March, hopefully some different techniques will get a response from my stubborn right knee.
Luke Appleyard (Wharfedale)- quick on the dissent
Please keep us posted. I have just been recommended to do Pilates by a physio (though actually I think she saw it as a way to wean me away from running and weight training - no chance). I have just got 2 books from the library, some things sound promising, but I don't like the way it gets promoted as the latest religion - like yoga and Alexander technique.
Half hour session at home using this book (tho I only paid £3.99 for it in a cheapo book shop)
Really need to do a session more than once every now and again - hopefully this thread will remind/encourage me

Well spotted Alexandra
Now fixed - and checked, though being an Ebay link it may disappear in 4 days time again so found it on Amazon too.

Thanks, Multiterrainer. I like Amazon better - am a bit nervous of Ebay. I love your signature. Long long ago I actually over-took Linda Lord at the very end of the Moffat Round and then realised I didn't know which way to go next, so gasped out, "Which waY???" and she very kindly told me (correctly).
Cracking first sesh. More details tomorrow. Night all.

Exercises look so easy, yet my lack of balance and stability highlighted in all of them, with my body shaking, or toppling over. Much to the amusement of the rest of the class. I was youngest by some considerable margin, and but for OH's parents with me, would've been the only fella.
You could really feel it working the core muscles though, same as my physio highlighted to me. Don't doubt improvements will come which can only be good for my knee (or any other bit of me that might go wrong!). Also hoping it might sort out the back pain I get on long car journeys.
On the plus side, she said I've got great posture and was loving my controlled movements. BAM!

I don't want to discourage anyone, but please read this if your knee feels worse rather than better after Pilates.
I was told to do slow one-legged balance type exercises for my bad knee - one-legged squats and dips. But the knee kept flaring up til a wise remedial gymnast advised me always to "splint" one leg with the other, so now I only do 2 legged squats and use 2 trekking poles for off road walking, and since then problems are fewer and milder.
I'm still intending to do some Pilates, but with numerous exercises edited out that I suspect might irritate my bad knees, back, etc etc.
