    Ennerdale Cut offs

My big aim for next year is Ennerdale and have read the cut offs are tight

I have the cut offs as (with 11am start)

    1st Great Bourne 11.50
    2nd Red Pike 12.25
    3rd Black Beck Tarn 13.25
    4th Green Gable 14.10
    5th Kirk Fell 14.45
    6th Pillar 15.40

Would anyone be able to tell me roughly distance and ascent between each?

Think the best way is to try a section at a time map's are great but the under foot conditions and many other factors come in to play, also you get to recce it so on the day your not going in as many circles.
i have not done this but i have on other longs with cuts offs i have and i am a back marker so i understand your concern
    Going to try again....

Would love to be able to do some recces but with family work etc never easy to get up to the lakes except on the odd occasion.

Guess I'll have to take the grumps advice

Anyway hope your leg is on the mend

If you are towards the back like me you will probably find the first three quite tight but things get less difficult later on, and if you get to Green Gable with time to spare you can relax a bit and enjoy the rest of the race .

As Cougar says - the first 3 are the tightest. If you can only do 1 recce I suggest Red Pike to Blackbeck Tarn (cp2 - 3). If you go wrong on that section you can loose a lot of time, especially if the clags down!

I worked this out last year - (and learnt it off by heart! so could rely on memory on the day!) will dig it out for you (as i think I have forgotten it now) - it was really interesting breaking a massive feat into bite size chunks (like how you eat an elephant)- I just worked out the miles/km - not the ascent though.

It really seemed to cheer skyrack's martin farrar up when i said - 'its just two miles to the next check point pal - come on we can do it!'

from start to great bourne - 3m
great bourne to red pike - 2.5m
red pike to black beck tarn - 3m (bit testing if you get the lines wrong!)
black beck tarn to green gable - 2m - (its here you begin to tire)
green gable to kirk fell - 1.2m (bit of a boost as that was a short section)
kirk fell to pillar - 2.3m (ooh that was a bit long - feel really tired now)
pillar to haycock - 1.7m (I'm sure this race should finish here)
haycock to iron crag - 2.3m (just two miles to the next check point martin - displacing the pain - totally fuelled by sweets now)
iron crag to crag fell - 2.5m (you are joking!)
crag fell to finish - 1.5m (complete disbelief)

you'll have to work the rest out yourself - although I also advise looking at a map and doing recces!

Ignore Daleside's distances. She has divided everything by 10 as I know the true distance of the race is 230 miles.

I have a trace from my Garmin for this year which might help with working distances and ascents (except where I had a wander round at Iron Crag with a couple of other runners looking for some marshalls who had sensibly gone home). I can guarantee this is not the best route, but I did go really slowly to make sure I got a satellite signal.
The land at the end of our toes goes on and on and on.
