I'll be running in x talons, again not really necessary for the terrain when it's so dry but I find them comfortable and lightweight for racing in so I'll go with that.

I only hate my roadies because of the way they look - ugly and cumbersome. Was out on the Pennine Way in my trail shoes (grey Inov-8s, don't ask me which model) last week and towards the end I could definitely done with extra cushioning.
I suppose that during the last 5 miles I'll be glad if any extra comfort.
What's the odds we have a streaker? If it's good enough for the crossers and all that.............
I'm bringing both a pair of Wave Harriers and Wave Riders and I'll decide on the day which to go for. The forecast is saying mid teens and sunny but it's too far out still for that to be anything like reliable.
It sounds like the going is pretty hard from the last couple of pages of comments and those Harriers have a sole like a piece of concrete so they're looking second best.
I'm looking forward to everything about this race with the exception of the 250-mile drive up from Windsor. And yes, it's been pretty hard to find hills to practice on down here!
From my recent trudgings I can report that all the main tracks are as hard as arseholes. Yesterday the weather was just about race perfect - hazy sunshine with some cloud, a light breeze and maybe 16 degrees in the valleys. Anything like that on Saturday and it will be a bloody fast race (relatively speaking of course).
As a one pair of running shoes at a time man, I will be wearing my Salomon Speedcross 2's which, having had them since Christmas, are now almost totally fooked (the uppers are tearing). Could be their last hurrah in fact. And no they're not on my recommended list for long lasting hill running shoes
