    United Utilities

I am organising a charity fell race 7th June just in case you ahdn't noticed!

But our friends at UU have emailed us saying we might have to pay them for running the race on there land. This had not been mentioned when we where granted permission for the race.

If we are charged then the race is likelly to make no money for the special needs school that my son attends.

    I am so angry!!

    That really sucks.
I thought that was one of the reasons they were going to let you hold the race was that it was for charity.

On what grounds are they proposing to charge you for hosting the race?

    Wink United Utilities.

Do they own the land or are they just facility providers?
If they are then apply to the owners & stress that it is for charity & insured.

    Regards,

I assume that because UU are the owners they are basically charging you for use of there land because of insurance purposes.

As the course you wish to run is all open access land anyway, would it not be possibel to run it as a social event where everybody taking part donates a certain amount of money, for example £4 or whatever the entry cost is.

We've emailed them and we're waiting for the response.

We have to fill in some new paper work which might mean us being charged to run on there land!

    I am not happy!!

It's good of them to tell us this just a couple of weeks before the race.

This information from UU is a bit ambibuous but does cover organised events and clearly states:

The only time they do not need permission is when they are conducted on foot and solely utilise Public Rights of Way and/or CRoW open access land. However most require additional land for a start and finish and car parking, extra toilets etc.
How much of the course does not comply with this and are you requesting the use of additional land?
