    Book Corner

Apologies if there's already a thread along similar lines.

I thought it'd be interesting for people to share what they're reading, running-related or not.

Always interesting to hear about a good book or author you weren't aware of.

I'll start with Mike Cudahy's 'Wild Trails To Far Horizons'. I'd never heard of him before I was bought it for my birthday recently and I'm only on page 40, but so far so inspirational. Really good book about some amazing achievements in fell running.

Ah yes, apologies to jodg. Just found his original thread. Laziness on my part for not checking.

Favourite author is Knut Hamsun who I'm also reading something by at the moment, but the Mike Cudahy book has taken over a bit!

Knut Hamsun hey? One of his books 'hunger' was publised by rebel inc (canogate books) in the late 90s. A lot of the rebel inc stuff is still in print but published as Canogate now. Maybe worth checking out.
I'm reading a kids book by Alan Garner (lives in Aldery Edge - Cheshire was born in my home town of Congleton) called 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen'. Not my normal read by its fun.

    Which Hamsun books are good?

Roxy Music, 1953-1972: The Band That Invented an Era, by Michael Bracewell.

Great read that as well as explaining how the band came together and where they were coming from, is also a great potted history of the origins and development of the British Pop Art scene. Highly recommended. If you like that kind of thing.

A biography of John Clare by Jonathan Bate. Just the introductory few pages had me reaching for a whisky stiffener :w00t:

Ooooo I like the idea of a book corner L.F.F, especially when it is all snowy and cold outside...

I have just finished "what I talk about when I talk about running" by haruki murakami which I really enjoyed..particularly liked his thoughts on how the act of running has helped him write, very interesting concept...but there is much more in the book about appreciating our own mortality, dealing with ageing positively and the bonds between runners...lovely stuff!

My friends and I have started a book group the first read will be "Norwegian Wood" by the aforementioned author.....be interested to hear how the Clare biog goes Alfster x
