High Peak Marathon

Mrs H and I had a trot around the middle section from Cutthroat Bridge to the Snake Summit today. There was a cold wind but visibility was good and we were following fresh Inov-8 Roclite tracks all the way to Swains Head where we lost them for a while before picking them up again at Bleaklow Stones. On a cautionary note though I went chest deep in a peat bog directly on the path between Cutgate and Outer Edge (and I don't mean knee deep and fell forward on my chest - I just went straight down). Mrs H helped to pull me out but I would have been in trouble on my own and she is smaller than me so would have been neck deep. We were following the stakes and it looked really inoccuous so be very careful. We were very cautious after that and slowed down - a lot!!

That is the home of the Bogmonster, well known in these parts and quite near(and dear) to me. On the "Grin and bear it" I've been on standby here with a throw line. Don't worry though you can sink more than arm pit deep as you are floating then if you do end up in this sort of stuff try and lay down and swim rather than walk out.

Well it's not bad but it's hard not to be impressed by Four Men Without Cox and the various permutations thereof.

or it's earlier name from years gone by when MR Cox couldn't make it:

Meeting tonight to sort out who's in. Any last minute appeals for clemency? ( not sure if that means letting you in or taking you out!) 100 entries for 50 places. Will check teams experience- anyone listing 'London Marathon' is out by default . Will get starting list out asap.

I did exactly the same thing in the same place about 2 yrs ago at 2am on a cold night recce with a mate from Buxton. I would've struggled to get out too if he hadn't've been there. Hoping to get in with 'No Sheep Till Buxton' again this year :thumbup:

Not from Macclesfield by any chance? Scout walks and The Macc Lads- happy days!
