    Sealskinz - any good?

Before I put a pair on my Chrimbo list, are these worth the money? I generally don't mind wet feet unless its really cold, so thought that these might be good for winter slush. Also, sizing wise, will I need to go half a size up to wear a thin pair of socks underneath?

Presume you mean the waterproof socks.

I'd say they were worth the money.

For snowy and slushy conditions, I can't think of anything else that would be better, and I wouldn't wear anything else.

I'm a 9.5, forget which SS size this relates to. I have quite narrow feet and the socks feel big on my feet, but never give any problems once on the feet and in the shoes. I don't feel the need for a liner sock, but think there would be room in my pair with my feet, the way the socks are cut.

See what others have to say.

Fantastic in this kind of weather. I ran to work and back yesterday, 14mi, feet kept dry and toasty warm.
Why would you want thin socks underneath?
The only problem is if you run through a lot of water that goes above the ankle band, because the waterproof qualities act against drainage and it's like wearing water balloons on your feet. But if you're not running through rivers, they're a winter essential imho.

i've had a pair for...c13 years...think they may have been £30 originally, but more than repaid it in service.

Thanks All - sounds like they work then. The idea of the thin socks underneath was as liners if its REALLY cold, but sounds like these won't be needed. How easy are they to wash?

    cheers

There has been plenty of discussion on the pros and cons of sealskinz already in other threads. Have you tried searching the forum?

Had a quick look through the first few pages (but was just being a bit lazy to be honest!!)

Yeah, but to be fair I've now looked at the older threads - they don't tell me anything I didn't find out from this one in half the time!

That's the beauty of this forum - there's always someone on-line with either the knowledge or experience you need for a quick answer (or an opinion at any rate!!)
