    Heart Pulse Rate

    Hello,

I've been running for a while and getting a bit concern about my heart's pulse rate. When I'm at rest I have a pulse rate ranging from 48 to 55bpm. I would like to know if this is normal. I measure my blood pressure just now and I got 125/77 so I guess it's good.

    Is this ok?

I've been reading and some people say this is OK for athletes but I don't consider myself one so that's why I'm a bit concern about this.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Re: Heart Pulse Rate

Fit runners often have resting heart rates rather lower than what is regarded as normal, which is usually said to be around 70. 48 to 55 is certainly not a cause for concern and not worth seeing your GP about. Resting pulse rates - in bed before getting up - can go as low as the high 20s in the very fit. At work my pulse is usually in the low 40s, and I can have childish fun setting off the monitor alarms; in front of the TV the mid 30s is not unusual.

    Re: Heart Pulse Rate

Thanks guys... I feel much better. Today I did a 2 mile run in the morning and went home for breakfast. After that I got a BP of 105/70 with a pulse of 69. I had a black coffee with my breakfast so maybe that's what got my pulse up there...

When I'm at my fittest (not at the mo) my heart rate can go as low as 34. This is usually a day after a long run. Going to the doctors or hospital, I always get the comment that I must be DEAD!
