    Countryfile

I might have missed this else where on the forum, but Countryfile tonight (20.02.11) is well worth a watch. Well its worth watching every week but this week had a great report on the Pennine Bridle Way. Even showed people closing gates which was very topical!!!

    Re: Countryfile

Generally I enjoy Countryfile but last week's segment on Foot and Mouth was one of the most confused bits of reporting I have seen on the BBC - could not work out what was reconstruction, what was conjecture, nor whether were we looking at the old outbreak or a future one - and the point of the segment - what would we do if Foot and Mouth returned now - went largely unanswered. Yes, this week's gate closing sequences were bound to attract comment.

Anyone see it tonight? FFS i was crying with laughter. A lady running a bird of prey rescue centre was telling countryfile about one of her favourite cases...

Lady- I was telephoned by a lady who said, "i've found a baby bird, i think it's a Dodo".
    Countryfile- What was it?
    Lady- A baby Pigeon.

Actually the lady had a point.

Taken from the National Geographic News…

"Molecular analysis of DNA retrieved from a Dodo specimen at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, England, confirms that the bird belongs firmly in the middle of the pigeon tree (family tree!) in evolutionary terms."

So there you are chaps, that lady was not as daft as first thought.

Interesting! Not many links that I could think of straight off (flightless, native to Mauritius etc) but pretty cool that they are somewhat "related". Still doesn't make me a fan of pigeons, though...ha ha!
