    Dinner before the round?

It's not always possible but I would normally aim to have a good balanced meal with pasta or rice the night before an event then porridge for breakfast; the event being a morning start.

I'm setting off at 7 pm for my round and am at a loss as to how to prepare foodwise for a start at this time of day.

If I have the last balanced meal the night before and porridge for breakfast those will have worn off before I start. I couldn't eat dinner at breakfast time.

    What do others do?

I've no experience of this Stef as you know...but you could always have a bowl of porridge at 5pm too!

For the evening start of the UTMB and also the Paddy I slept in a bit, breakfast, lunch and then a meal around 4/5ish and started steady. As the pace early on is so slow starting full up isn't a problem for me.

I have recently switched from muesli to porridge, and have found it much easier to run with a reasonable amount of it inside me - can add a chopped up banana or two and some raisins and honey - try a bowl at 5ish followed by a trial run at 7 to see if it suits you. I like it so much I often have a bowl about now - in fact I just finished one!

Good choice in Old Keswickian or Dog n Gun :w00t:

Don't try anything different, stick to what you know you can handle.

Usual mix of high carb and bit of protein, I would probably have decent meal based on potatoes or pasta at 3ish (after a huge breakfast and morning snack) then snack on things like bananas, sandwiches, porridge up to an hour or so before. You may feel bloated (like an Ox) but this will wear off after Skidda.

    Get and stay well HYDRATED!!

I too have no experience of 7pm starts!
I am thinking of having a pasta dinner the night before, a sleep in, a good bowl of porridge for breakfast, tuna sanwiches for lunch and an early dinner (half four?) featuring pasta and tuna..... unless some experienced forumite convinces me otherwise.

Actualy, I would have preferred a civilised 7am start going anticlockwise, but the logistics of my attempt precluded that.

Prehydration is probably a good idea as well.

I'm going for a sleep in, mega breakfast mid-morning, small pasta meal mid-afternoon and grazing on whatever I feel like up to 1800, then no more until I start at 1900, which will be 24 hours of Picnic bars, gels and cold veggie sausages.

I've switched allegiance to Picnics now. Easier to chew I reckon.
