    Re: Snowdon

I have not managed to download the entry form yet, but i am becoming increasingly tempted by the Ben Rinnes five tops race, reckon it might be a more challenging/interesting event than running up and down the tourist path on Snowdon, and it probably does not have that steep tarmac (as in Snowdon & Ben Nevis) to the finnish that completly destroys your legs.

I've entered this race, and for me it's going to be the highlight of my racing year, and my farewell race in Britain as we're moving to France in September. (This is of course if I get in, there's only 450 places)

I've been told that you're best off doing this race in road shoes/flats, because it's quite hard packed trail. Does that mean I need to train on harder surfaces to get accustumed to 10 miles of pounding?

People have said that it's quite a tough race, what do you all think?

Roads/flats would be about right I reckon. It was dry last year so grip wasn't an issue. How much that changes in the wet i don't know. A bit of cushioning softens the blow but as it's rocky something low profile with good feel helps. One trip and it's gonna hurt! A good set of quads will make things easier too, unlike mine, that decided they'd had enough about 20 minutes too early!

    What, in France? Surely not

Well if you don't get in there, try Spain. Plenty of hilly bits there as well.

    Re: Snowdon

Seeing as Ben Nevis is getting all the attention, I thought i'd revitalise this thread too! It seems that this race isn't popular amongst the forumites. Now I know it's straight up and down a rocky path, there's no grass or scree, you have to dodge the 'sandwich-eating, anorak-wearing tourists' who've got the train up instead of walking and Ben Rinnes is on the same day, but tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that there's something special about going into battle with the second highest peak in the land?
