    Research and fell running

Following on from the questionnaire thread, does anyone know of any scientific type research that has or is being done using fell runners/off road runners as the sample population? Ive found some stuff about orienteers and different types of injury etc, they mostly seem to be written by orienteers who are also sports scientists. I wondered if there was anything similar in the fell running population?

    Re: Research and fell running

An Athletics Compendium list just one thesis:

A Physiological and Biochemical Profile of the Fell Runner.
by D.Simpson, Salford University, 1984 MSc thesis.

Two books, not specifically about fell running, contain much research information of use to fell runners are:

    1. Endurance and Sport. ISBN 0632030356
    Blackwell Scientifc Publications, 1992

    2. Marathon Medicine, Dan Tunstall Pedoe, ISBN 1853154601
The Royal Society of Medicine Press, 2000

Best source for scientific articles about running is the on-line reference
from Lore of Running by Tim Nokes. (100 pages of references).

Another source listing research papers is to use Google Scholar
and search for "Endurance Running". Over 42,000 links listed!

Why not just ask the author? Surely it must be Norman Matthews of Horwich?

Fantastic - I can now openly read a running article at work & get away with it (having just rejoined the Operational Research dept at work!!). I may even finish reading one of the articles, which I think would be a first! All I need to do it locate a copy of the JORS, my last copy was a few years before that (and probably went in the bin).

PS - if there are any other OR types out there looking for a job in West Cumbria then PM me, we do have vacancies.
