Valverde is goosed. Nibali on his own, one man race. Second between the French boys, which is nice for the French! Mjka might well be going to lose the polka dot, hope he holds second on the hill Lives great!!

Good recovery Mjka. Also to lesser degree Valverde.

I was very impressed by Greg LeMond's ride up the Tourmalet for Eurosport today. I don't know what his VO2 max is these days but carrying all the extra years and weight he hardly seemed out of breath at the summit. 89 kph on the descent wasn't too shabby either
    No country for old men.

I have ridden down the Tourmalet descent to Luz-St-Sauveur on a closed road after the Tour had passed. Sublime!
    And terrifying.

I spent spent a summer in Luz back in my younger days (2003 I think) and the descent into
Luz is still the fastest I've ever been on a bike.

Getting to know the descent just makes it worse tbh.

I have seen the Tour go up Luz Ardiden. It was one of my poignant experiences.

After the grupetto had gone by spectators started walking down the road in their thousands; but there were still riders off-the-back coming up the climb and they had to dodge in beween the walkers coming down.

Probably to be eliminated by failing to meet the cut.

It brought it home to me how awful life as a domestique can be. Not even allowed the dignity of finishing the stage on a clear road.

I had a similar experience at the Trog one year. I thought folk were applauding me as I trudged round that wretched cricket square only to realize it was the other runners showing their appreciation for the race organisers at the end of the prize giving

I went up the Port de Bales and down the closed road after the race had passed. I was a bit careful at first as the bends are tight and you wouldn't want to go over the edge
But once in to it, flew down. Probably the only ever time I'll scalp Tom Addison
