    Cat & Fiddle down-and-up relay

It's less than three weeks until the Cat & Fiddle down-and-up fell relay.

    Details here: http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=1060

This started as a suggestion on the forums: http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...ight=daft+idea

For those who haven't spotted this one in the race calendar: it's a 2-person 2-leg relay, where the first leg is almost entirely downhill (for all you great descenders). The second leg largely reverses the route (for all the people like me who normally do better on the uphill section of races).

I'm currently making the first batch of mystery conserve which will be part of the prizes and I've placed the cake orders with Mrs Noel.

If you don't have someone to run with you can either turn up and find someone on the night, just run one leg, or run both legs.

I have been up the route 5-6 times in the last two months the last time on Saturday do I get a prize?

Is the start / finish at the gate on the path towards the cat and fiddle?

Aren't the wonderful views and sense of satisfaction enough?

Yes, somewhere around there. I can't quite remember if it was the gate or the footbridge - I'll remember when I do another reccie in a few days.

Shame I can't run. I think me and Noel would've made a decent partnership for this!

I'll be giving this some Pennine publicity in today's email.

noel - where'll best to park? will we be OK in the C&F pub car-park? what about the car-park down in Wildboarclough where the handover is?
Scramble the rock face through the glare of morning sun — to run

I discovered this one whilst browsing through the FRA calendar on the loo the other day.
Now, I'm a mediocre climber but a fairly spectacular descender. I may travel over from work in Warrington - are there any keen climbers who would like to make up a team?

Yes the wonderful views and sense of satisfaction are wonderful but a prize is better.

I will need to see if I can persuade my friend to climb. It is a good fast descent down the grass then gets to be a bit of fun from then on. Are runners having to stick to the stoney track or are they being allowed to wimp out and go on the trod next to it?

Assuming you allowed mixed teams, I was going to have a go at this one with Mrs STL, it would be our perfect race, but she is working a late shift that day.

I'm a fairly mean descender and an average half-descent climber (although I do prefer the down, obviously!). I'm debating whether to do it all or not, but for now I'll say "Partner wanted"

Thanks Geoff. We can guess where we would have finished (which is normally higher than actual finishes)

Hi Daz, the C&F car park and, failing that, in the little lay-bye opposite is best. Registration is at the C&F.

Also, the handover is at the car park in Wildboarclough, so there'll be a funnel etc there.

I'll be flagging downhill runners onto the trod as this minimises the amount of the track where uphill and downhill runners are on the same bit. It should also make for a more enjoyable run - the track is pretty rocky.

Shame - there will be prizes for mixed teams.
